What Is It About Riddles That Attracts Us So Much?

There is always something fascinating about putting our minds to work and trying to solve all kinds of puzzles. Whether it is competition against other people or just enjoying the fact that you know something, trivia nights have been getting more popular in pretty much every country. Not to mention all those TV shows that invite players to participate against others for a chance to win excellent prizes. Sure, you could argue that there are those who don’t really care about such ventures, and it is totally understandable. After all, we do have different preferences, and our behavior in childhood signals how we are likely to be in the future. One of the best indicators, despite not appearing so, would be interest in riddles. For one thing, pretty much everyone had to deal with them in their childhood.


Like already mentioned, there is a group of those who despised dealing with these puzzles, and those that loved it. Their fascination has lead to interest in further years too, and in most cases, whenever somebody had shown such interest, it would end up being an indication of a more successful life. After all, it is an activity that requires intelligence, and everybody knows that intelligence is one of the key things if you want to have a career that will make others jealous.

Whenever we think of a riddle, the first thing that comes to mind would be some kind of a puzzle that requires solving. A play on words, an obvious answer, and tricky questions make for a dynamic solving if you want to find out what the correct answer is.

If you do happen to be a big fan of solving a riddle every now and then, then you should definitely consider looking into what other countries have to offer. Since this is somewhat akin to a cultural thing, one has to understand that there will be a difference if you take a look at a place like Africa and Europe. Sure, there will be some that tend to repeat itself, not word to word, but the whole point is more or less the same. Or the answer is the same.

Translation might be a bit of an issue. As you probably know, these kinds of things work the best when they are in a native tongue. And translating them literally tends to lead to disasters in terms of the outcome. On the other hand, if it is done by a professional, then there should not be too much of an issue.

Overall, if you do like riddles, then there is no reason why you shouldn‘t stop solving them. A passion should be followed, no matter what it is.
